Most writers stay true to a chosen form, spinning their work the way 19th century women would manipulate intricate looms...twisting, spinning, wrapping, binding.

I, too, sit at my loom each day, working my thread-words into coherent strands.

Until recently, I believed in limitations...full-time work in academia, tutoring in the evenings, writing on off-nights and weekends. I was tired. I believed, as the writing books tell me, that I should focus on one genre, hone my skills in that form, and be content. But where in those rules could I possibly fit a simultaneous love for paranormal research, Young Adult fiction, commercial nonfiction, memoir, instructional design and Reiki? How does a writer maintain a secure fan base when their work jumps the tracks at every turn with surprising publications in an odd and wide variety of genres from month to month?

Simply, I surrendered to my heart.

Last year, I rediscovered my muse where she has been waiting patiently...in alternative therapies. In 2009 I opened my holistic health practice,
Seven Sacred Breaths Integrated Healing, where I offer alternative therapies (Reiki, Reflexology, Flower Essences, and Shiatsu) for healing mind, body and spirit.

Pure joy.

I lovingly cross-polinate my worlds these days, and am excited and pleased to be teaching a workshop on memoir writing and energy healing, as well as other alternative classes, all listed on my Events! page. You'll find information on seasonal book signings there as well.

In my life, writing allows me to heal, and healing nearly always involves writing--two worlds that sometimes delicately, sometimes ferociously, always productively intertwine in the most fantastic ways. You might also enjoy visiting Zoliann's Garden, an online Etsy shop where I sell my handcrafted, Reiki-inspired jewelry--the lovely and loving results of a still mind and calm breath.

Thank you for stopping by! I invite you to join me as I spin my compass and move into the bountiful journey of 2010!

In wellness,
Sylvia
